Bend It Like... Bryan

So i finally broke my goalless streak at the field house. Tonight at our coed game, I took a free kick from about 20 yards out. The other team had a two man wall and G was behind the wall to the left with a guy marking him. The keeper was behind them. I struck the ball with the outside of my right foot and it skimmed across the turf hooking around the wall and weaving past the third defender. Then past the goalie and into the back of the net!
I wish someone had recorded it was pretty goal. I'd like to see it again. ;)

Rocky Balboa

I just finished watching Rocky Balboa. I put it off for a long time, because I couldn't imagine how they could make another Rocky movie. You know though, I have to admit. I really liked it. Being originally from the Philly area the Rocky movies are always a little bit of home. I mean I grew up on this. Even with my reluctance to watch the movie in the end I felt the excitement just like all the other movies. I wanted to see the underdog from South Philly win!

That's not a sport?!?

I was just checking the ESPN website to see if there were any soccer matches on today, and I noticed that on ESPN2 HD they are showing something that definitely should only be shown in High Definition... POKER! Wow, a bunch of guys sitting around trying to psych each other out for money. Come that's not even a sport....

The Disgraceful: Berks United vs. Germania

Saturday we played Germania again. The way the schedule worked this year we play some of the teams twice, and because of this it turns out we ended up playing Germania two weeks in a row.

Germania isn't very good. They didn't have a team for the last couple of years so they are all basically new. They haven't won a game and I don't know if they have scored a goal yet. The first time we played them it was 5 or more to 0(I lost count). On Saturday we were pretty much destroying them 8-0 when things turned crazy...

The guy running the team is from Morocco and he has a friend Hakim who I think is also from there. He played with us last year and he managed to get at least a yellow card every game. He's like a ticking time bomb waiting to blow. You never know when it will happen, but you can be certain he will explode. I mean he is so bad that even in pick up he always has something to say. He's always arguing and complaining, and has a habit of yelling at his teammates. So, we were short players the last couple of games so the guy running the team called him up and asked him to play. The first game I think he got a yellow card. Plus, we had a free kick that I was going to take and he stepped in front of me and took kicked it right before I was going to. Then he said something rude to me. All I could do is shake my head.

This Saturday he was in rare form. In the first half he walked off the field because he thought no one was passing him the ball. Someone convinced him to stay and continue to play. I don't know why.. So, then the second half he gets into it with one of the other players and elbows him in the face. He gets a yellow card and then continues to complain to the ref. One of our guys is injured so he was taking care of the subs. I kept telling him to sub Hakim. He then told me that he was hoping he would get a red so we won't have to worry about him for the next game, since it is a big game.

Well, in the end he did. Something happened and Hakim was in front of the goal and got kicked. Next thing you know he and another guy are wrestling on the ground. I'm pretty sure Hakim grabbed him and pulled him down. Then apparently someone kicked him or elbowed him when he was on the ground. I was on the bench and my first instinct was to run out and break it up. Not sure why. I was thinking more about the team than Hakim, because I don't even like the guy, but he is lucky I did run out because he would have gotten his butt kicked had I not. Anyway, the two get pulled apart and Hakim punches one of the other players in the head and blood splatters. I grab him and basically bear hug him (around both arms) and pick him up and carry him off to the side of the field. Meanwhile the other team is screaming at him. The ref gave him a red card and terminated the game. Then I pretty much pushed him to the other side of the field to the benches. The bloody idiot kept trying to turn around and go back. Plus, guys from the other team were running up screaming. So in order to not let anything else happen... not to protect Hakim. I was pushing them away. Then this one guy that was a real idiot during both games, number 8. He's really a cheap dirty player. Starts yelling at me because I pushed him. He wanted to "square off" with me. I just shook my head at him.

Afterwards I was shaking hands with some of the guys on the other team and apologizing for the mess and I went to shake this guys hand and he said something and stepped way with his hands in the air. I just shook my head at him and turned away. Then he pushed me from behind and yelled "round two!". I mean, come on... grow up...

The whole things was really a huge disgrace. After all, it's only over 30 amateur soccer. Not the world cup. I do this as a stress relief, not for this... Last game the guy organizing the team started an argument at half-time within our team. If this keeps up, I might be looking for a new team pretty soon...

Seriously, what is wrong with Comcast???

I just wasted almost 2 hours trying to get my computer to work!!
For some reason this morning when went to start working this morning, my computer was at the log in screen. Strange, because I didn't turn it off last night. Then I realized my server was at the log in screen too. So, I chalked it up to good old MS Update Tuesdays. So, then I couldn't connect to the internet with a browser. IM worked, but no browser. Did every scan I know, thinking maybe I had a virus. Still nothing... checked the server... same issues. Ok maybe something is wrong with my router... rebooted... more of the same. Updated the firmware, which meant reconfiguring all my old settings. Still no better! Only thing left is it has to be my provider.. Comcast. So, I fooled around with rebooting the cable modem etc. Still nothing.

Then after getting sick of it and wanting to throw it everything out the window. (I controlled myself though) Boom! Everything works again?!?!?

Grrrr... should have just let it go and done nothing... OK, now time to actually get some work done.

Online Advertising Jobs Super Hot

I was just reading an article in Fortune Magazine yesterday about how hot the job market for online advertising sales has become. Here's a link to the article: Hot Job: Selling Web Ads I was quite shocked. If read the article you'll see they are talking about NYC salaries of $500,000 a year! I mean wow, this sounds like the 90's again. After reading the article I didn't really believe it either. So, I jumped over to careerbuilder.com and did a search (online advertising) for the Philly area. Most of the listings didn't show salaries, but I did find a good example:

  • Base Pay:
    $50,000.00 - $200,000.00 /Year
  • Commission:
    $100,000.00
  • Other Pay:
    Full benefits and expense allowance

  • WOW! I mean it's a sales job so you are surely expected to work like a dog and you have to perform or you're gone. I'm not really looking for a "job", but hey... I'll keep my options open for that.

You know I started thinking though. With a job like that, a company that has a platform is selling to companies to get them to place their ads on the platform. Now what I do is Search Enginge Marketing (SEM). I help companies get their ads on platforms, i.e. Google AdSense, Yahoo Search Marketing, Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions. It's pretty much the other side of the industry. The salaries that are being awarded to the sales people is a sign of how hot the market is right now. So, the question is: "What does that mean for Blackbird e-Solutions?" Well, it means that now is an exciting time to be in the SEM industry, and makes it a great time to offer my service as a premium service. How much can we make in one year??? Hang on because we're about to find out!!

    Moving Forward

Wow, I've really been slacking with posting recently. Things have been pretty crazy recently. I'm still waiting on the pics from San Fran. There should be some good one's I'm sure. ;)

The biggest news right now is I finally received some seed money for my company. It should help me get the marketing side of things going, and start scoring some new clients. Today I had a meeting with another translator that I will be working with. He has experience with freelance translating and project management. It sounds like he is going to be a lot better to work with the crazy Joe, many of you have heard the stories. If you haven't yet. Suffice it to say, I think I have the worst experience possible with working with freelance translators behind me. So, it hopefully can only get better.

Last night we had a coed indoor game which we won, wohoo! Only one of our girls showed up (5 and goalie on the field and you have to have at least 2 girls all times), so we played short for most of the first half. Then one of the guys called his wife and she came out too. We ended up finishing the first half 5-1. It was pretty great. Then we fell asleep in the beginning of the second half and ended up winning 7-6. Whew... We are in something like 3rd place now.

Right now I'm sitting in a cafe in Ardmore on the corner of Cricket Ave. That's where I met the translator. I'm just hanging out and doing some work before I head to the Mainline Stammtisch with Netzwerk Phila. We're having another meeting about what the Netzwerk. it looks like things are really starting to move forward on several fronts.
