Cow Power... Not Just Another Stinky Proposition

California which has become known for it's brown outs and disastrous energy shortages, is finding creative solutions to their problems. PG&E(Pacific Gas and Electric) is teaming up with dairies to produce biogas using cow manure:

TSA missed 90% of bombs at Denver airport

Wow! I'm glad I'm not flying through Denver anytime recently. Makes you wonder what's getting through other places....

Check out this article I found on BoingBoing.com

TSA missed 90% of bombs at Denver airport

"Dzakovic, who is currently a TSA inspector, said security is no better today.

'It's worse now. The terrorists can pretty much do what they want when they want to do it,' he said."

Viva la Bleu!

Last night my indoor team, The Blue Team(I know very original) tied. I scored a penalty shot goal. It was actually a surprise penalty kick... I stole the ball from a defender and it bounced ahead of me towards their goal, so I chased it down... with another guy at my heals. I beat him to the ball, then tried to shield ball and I think on my second touch the other guy wiped me out. It was a clear goal scoring opportunity. It should have been a card really, but the ref gave us a penalty shot. I was as shocked as the other team, but I wasn't going to miss a great opportunity. I took the shot and made sure I didn't miss the free goal we given. ;) That put us up 2-1. Then in the last minute they tied it up...

The most exciting thing though, is that we are in the championship game next week! We are in first place with 5 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. I've been playing in this league for over a year now. The sessions last about 8 weeks including a championship game. Our team has never been in the championship game before. ;) Some of the guys have been playing for years and never made it. So, now's our chance to get our hands on the championship t-shirt! :)

Computer Industry Vs. the Auto Industry

Ah, the urban legend... This is a copy of a forward that has been circulating since 1999 or maybe even earlier, but it's still funny: (Although some cars are coming with start button now. ;) #13)

THE BILL GATES CAR

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX). Bill Gates reportedly compared the
computer industry with the auto industry and stated: "If GM had kept up
with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving
$25 cars that got 1000 miles to the gallon." In response to Bill's
comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:

If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving
cars with the following characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever your car would crash twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road you would have to buy
a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason and you
would just accept this, restart and drive on.

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause
your car to shut down and refuse to restart. In which case you would
have to reinstall the engine.

5. Only one person at a time could use the car, unless you bought
"Car95" or "CarNT" but, then you would have to buy more seats.

6. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun. Reliable,
five times as fast and twice as easy to drive. But, it would only run on
5% of the roads.

7. The oil, water temperature and alternator warning lights would be
replaced by a single "general car fault" warning light.

8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.

9. The airbag system would say "Are you sure?" before going off.

10. Occasionally for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out
and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lift the door handle.
turn the key and grab hold of the radio antenna.

11. GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of
Rand McNally road maps (now a GM subsidiary); even though they neither
need them or want them. Attempting to delete this option would
immediately cause the car's performance to diminish by 50% or more.
Moreover. GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice
Department.

12. Every time GM introduced a new model car buyers would have to learn
how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate
in the same manner as the old car.

13. You'd press the "start" button to shut off the engine.

Yahoo! Video -- Mania_t_v **A Warning**

Along with my own business. I do some work on the side as a rater for Google. What I do in a nutshell is rate the validity search strings for sites, images, etc...

Today I had a particular search, actually I don't remember exactly what the search term was, but it landed me on a page from Yahoo! Video. The page was a directory of videos from a user called Mania_t_v. Frankly the videos were pretty useless, as they all seemed to be advertisements for the site called mania.tv. Now before you go checking out the site... don't! After checking out some of the videos, although I'm not really into the topic (Hollywood gossip), I thought I would check out the site. The first time i tried, my browser Firefox crashed. Ok, odd... So, I started Firefox again and chose restore the session. It tried to access the site again, and BOOM! Not only did my browser crash, my computer crashed and restarted with a whole bunch of errors! I am currently running AVG Anti-Virus and Ad-Aware (I recommend both) to see what they infected the computer with. So far all I've found is some cookies that seem to be a bit dangerous, but I'm sure I'll find something else considering none of my audio drivers work now...

So in short: Stay away from maniatv.com. I'm not sure if it is one of their that is malicious or those running the site. Hopefully Yahoo! Video will investigate this as well, because if someone is using there service to lure people to their site and then dumping Spy/Malware onto their machines. It could tarnish the image of Yahoo! And this only shortly after I was so happy with their service...

Coe Family Portal

Calling all Coes!

I made a mistake when I the coefamily.net domain from my free package with 1&1 to Blackbird e-Solutions I thought I already had the bulletin board on my server already, but unfortunately I didn't and by the time I realized it the original one was shut down already. So, I lost the old BB. I just set it up again and will be updating it and making it look better. If you want to register again use the following link: portal.coefamily.net Once I get it all sorted out I'll probably send a mass email to everyone, but you can register now too.

Yahoo Mail

My mail came back online late last night. So, I'm able to check my mail again.

I'm pretty impressed with Yahoo though . It appears they have people monitoring the internet and blogs for cases like mine. A guy named Ryan commented on my last post that they were having a few server issues and that I should let him know if I was still having a problem. (see comments from previous post.) He didn't explicitely say he was from Yahoo, but it sure sounds like it. If you ask me, that's impressive service....

Thanks, Yahoo and Ryan!

Yahoo mail

Well it appears that I may be the only one that is having problems with Yahoo mail. I can't seem to log in for some reason. It just keeps giving me a 404 error (not found). I've tried 4 different computers. The weird thing is I seem to be able to do everthing else with Yahoo.
I don't know how long it is going to last. So, if anyone is trying to get a hold of me try one of my other emails. Or post here...

e-Life: Blackbird e-Solutions and the Tech. Industry

I've decided to start a blog for my company Blackbird e-Solutions called e-Life. I plan to use the blog to discuss issues that are relevant to the company. This will include topics that are of importance in the tech industry, as well as discussions about our products and services. Pretty much all things “e”. What does the "e" stand for. Electronic, this could also be an "i" for information, but I don't want to get confused with Apple. ;)

I'm setting out with a goal to post at least once a week. I hope everyone will check it out. Feel free to post any questions you might have and I'll do my best to answer them.

To all you iPod toting music lovers.

Steve Jobs recently threw down the digital music gauntlet and lashed out at the big four music companies (Universal, Sony BMG, Warner and EMI). (Thoughts on Music Steve Jobs) Jobs states that Apple only locks the music they sell at iTunes because of the DRM(Digital Rights Management) rules the music companies insist on using. He also, says that Apple would gladly support DRM free music. "This is clearly the best alternative for consumers, and Apple would embrace it in a heartbeat."
Jobs argues that they can not allow other companies to use the DRM that is used on iTunes music called FairPlay, because it would be impossible to keep the technology updated if it is in the hands of another company. Therefor they could no longer guarantee to protect the music licenses they are contractually imposed to protect.

What does all this really mean for us, the consumers? Personally I have an iPod as well, but I don't purchase much of my digital music from iTunes because that means I can only play the music on my iPod or the iTunes software. Hopefully the music industry will seriously think about the arguments that Jobs puts forth. The "big four" companies are still in a panic as their profits slip further because people continue to find other ways to get the music they want. In fact artist might even be better off selling their music in digital format themselves and bypassing the companies altogether, considering the cut they take. It has taken the music industry a long time to understand the benefits and need to embrace digital music. Now, if they can get over the DRM hurdle we may be on our way to enjoying the music we love, where and how we want to.

Ah, the crazy Dutch!

Nudists sweat it out at Dutch Gym

I saw this on Yahoo. There are just some things where you should just keep your clothes on...

"There are things that you like to do, and for a nudist, it just feels better to do them with your clothes off," said Ron van der Putten, who drove for more than an hour for the event. "You feel more free."

"Nude exercisers were required to put towels down on weight machines, use disposable seat covers while riding bikes and disinfect the equipment."

Well thank goodness for that! Can you imagine!
