O zapft is!

So, I'm back in Munich to visist Mel for about 10 days. Just in time to go to the Oktoberfest, too!

It's actually quite strange. It's strange to be here knowing that I am not staying. It is the first time I've been back since I moved to the US. I often find myself wondering why I ever left... Since I was here in 97 when I studied for a semester in Germany, Munich has always felt like...well, I guess like a second home. Hopefully some day I will get to live here again.

So, far the trip has been pretty exiting, even though the weather has been pretty crap. I Arrived on Saturday around 11am and that evening we went to the Wies'n. It was extremely crowded so we wandered around for a while trying to get in a tent. Finally we got into a small less popular one, and I had a Mass of Augustiner! Mmmmm, yummy... We didn't stay too late as I was pretty tired. Unfortunately, Mel couldn't get off work for most of the week. She has Tuesday and Friday off. So, when she isn't working we have just been hanging out and relaxing. We went to a friends for dinner as well. Yesterday we went to the Oktoberfest again for dinner and had a 'halbes Hendl' (half a chicken) and yup some beer. ;) Yummmmy! Friday will be the last time we go, and we'll go in the full gear...Lederhosen and Dirndl. Einz, Zwo, Drei g'suffa!

Wireless internet access for one and all!

Philly is making a jump into the future of networking. As the first major metro area in the US to offer a WiFi to the everyone. This is a great reason to live in Philly!

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Philadelphia expanded free outdoor wireless Internet access on Tuesday as part of a multimillion-dollar plan to connect the entire city by early 2006.

It is the first major U.S. city to start a citywide wireless Internet project, although some smaller communities already have such networks, said Dianah Neff, a city spokeswoman and head of the wireless project.

The expansion offers Web access to users of WiFi-enabled computers and devices within a radius of about a mile from the first so-called hot spot -- downtown's Love Park, where the project originated earlier this year.

"It will have a huge impact on the perception of Philadelphia as a 21st-century city and a progressive place," Mayor John Street told a news conference.

A city-led task force is talking with business groups and schools to expand the wireless area elsewhere in the city. It aims to complete its plan by early December and invite bids from Internet service providers and equipment suppliers by February next year, Neff said.

If suppliers sign contracts by early 2005, the citywide network could be operating within a year, Neff said. The estimated initial cost of the project is $7 million to $10 million.

Mach Pee Pee bitte!

Ok, having a little bit of trouble with the blog scripting. So, I'm going to put in too entries...this one goes with the last one...

So, the story with Lucy is that she has some crystals in her pee. That means she has to be put on a special diet. Then in 15 days we have to go through the same thing with the night in the bathroom. Hopefully we can do it before then because I will be in Germany in 15 days! So, at any rate. The poor little girl. She is doing well though. You wouldn't know she is sick. The worst part is if in 15 days she still has stones. That means she might have a stone. Which is really bad. ....hopefully not. We'll see.

Just a little bit of pee, PLEASE!

Ever wish you could speak cat? Man I wish I could right now. Lucy has had a urinary tract infection( I know.. sounds pleasant). So, I have had her to the vet twice so far. The first time I was able to get some pee to take in for them to run test, because she was a nonstop peeing machine. The second time the vet told me that they would get it and I didn't need to worry about it. Little did I know this meant using a needle to take it out of her bladder through her stomack. Man, it was a pretty awful site. In the end they couldn't get enough to do any test, but could tell it was still bloody. So, they put her on some more antibiotics and said come back in a week with some pee. That means Lucy wouldn't even have to go. This would be a great relief, because she gets sick everytime she goes anywhere in the car. Last time it was out both ends.

So, tonight I am trying to get her to pee....sounds easy enough. For the last 4 hours or so she has been in the bathroom with a bowl of water and some cruncies, and still no pee. Shes's doing a number on the rug under that sticks just under the door though.
You try explaining to a cat that she needs to pee in an empty kitty litter box so you can put it in a jar. I've discovered that neither English or German seem to work....I'm off to try in my best 'Cat'....wish me luck!
